Power Plays (review)

Power Plays

What the publisher/author says:

Power Plays includes three salacious stories that are sure to get you in the mood. “His & Hers” is a twist on the classic librarian fantasy–there is some switching going on (and even a M/F/M BDSM menage à trois). In “Fun & Games,” a M/F couple gets off on spanking with a little cuckolding and humiliation thrown in for good measure. And in “Undercover,” a lesbian undercover cop gets a run for her money when the tables are suddenly turned by a mysterious woman. These are three of the sexiest, steamiest stories you will find in any anthology. If you like graphic sex with real characters and a good story line, Power Plays is for you.

What I say:

A librarian, a detective, and a piece of rented tail weave tales of sex and spankings in this trilogy crafted from the things that make you go “oh” in the night.

These three short stories are well written to the point you can feel the heat given off by the very words. I couldn’t say which of the three lead women I wanted to be more… the librarian having the chance to try her hand at the dom side of the fun… the detective who was willing to follow her desire… or the rented tail that knows where her love loyalty lies, while still having fun.

The imagery in all three are vividly and leave you clutching your sheets and wondering where one goes to buy such things… besides the Internet. A real fire starter in the bedroom, certain to not disappoint. It will quickly be your go-to trilogy for some virtual mindplay.

Finding Home (review)

Finding Home

What the publisher/author says:

An unexpected pregnancy brings Julie Miller home to Brookfield, Wyoming to get guidance from her mother. But when she returns to the home she grew up in, her mother isn’t there. Instead Julie finds Mark Thomas, who is renting the house while her mom travels the country. If that isn’t bad enough, a blizzard hits the town, keeping her locked in with the hunk who happens to have a secret of his own, which Julie just has to know.

What I say:

After moving in with her boyfriend, Julie finds herself in a pregnant predicament. After her now exboyfriend’s ultimatum sends her to her childhood home and to her mother’s tenant, Julie must decide if Mark is the man set to make all her dreams and aspirations cone true.

I enjoyed this sweet story. It was easy to read with sweet coupling and safe sex. Unlike Ms. Wolfe’s other stories it leaves a lot to the imagination and is perfect for readers who may be okay with sex but might find graphic writing a tad too much. This gives enough away while not giving it all. The characters were likeable (except for Sarah, but the readers aren’t meant to like or relate to her). Without giving away the ending, you will walk away from this story satisfied.

Sarah’s Chase (review)

Sarah’s Chase

What the author/publisher says:

It’s been a long time since a man has satisfied Sarah. Deciding to put an end to her dry spell, she seeks out a younger man from her neighborhood with a reputation for pleasing women and taking control. After luring Chase back to her house with the simple excuse of needing a light bulb changed, she learns he’s a Dom. Is Sarah really ready for the pleasure that he can bring her?

What I say:

Twiced divorced Sarah find out what she had been missing with a younger man.

Definitely a quick read with concise and easily pictured language. Perfect read for spending a little ‘alone time’s with yourself. This short story makes me wanting more!

Tempting the Manny (review)

Tempting the Manny

What the author/publisher says:

Olivia’s world is torn to pieces when her boyfriend leaves her for a younger woman. But she has no time to dwell on it, she must pick-up the pieces for her children. And the first thing on her list is hiring a sitter. In return though, she gets a very unexpected surprise.

Jamie loves children. He comes from a big family and can’t wait to start his own one day. From the moment he meets Olivia and her children, he feels like this is where he’s suppose to be. But he mustn’t act on how he feels and does his best to stay professional, even with Olivia making it very difficult for him.As Olivia and Jamie try their best to fight the way they’re feeling and figure out of it can work, her ex-boyfriend shows back up to complicate things. After a string of her own lies, can Olivia figure out what it is she really wants?
What I say:

At the request of an author, Lacey Wolfe, I read one of her recently released books, Tempting the Manny. The story is set in suburbia, Olivia is a newly single mother in search of a caregiver for her two young daughters. After initially thinking she was getting yet another well qualified female candidate she is surprised to open the door to a rather hunky and straight man to be everything she needs.

As promised, this was a quick and easy read…. perfect for those who really just want a diversion or really can’t invest a whole lot of time in a long-developing plot arcs. The characters are likable enough although the secondary characters don’t offer much depth other than blowing in and out quickly, causing minor hiccups in the main characters’ lives. For the length of the story, there are just enough details without being verbose. Leaves plenty to the imagination, and leaves quite a bit that could be expanded upon.

I really appreciate the characters actively practicing safe sex, despite falling into bed so soon after becoming involved in each other’s lives. There isn’t exactly a lot of sexual tension between Olivia and Jamie, but its appropriate for this type of story. I doubt that I would be satisfied with picking up what I would consider a light diversion just to be bogged down by seemingly never ending sexual tension. I do believe that the ex-boyfriend gave up a little too easily but it does keep the story moving along.

The sex isn’t so intense that you’ll find yourself blushing madly and hiding away with your favorite power tool, but it is just enough to make it work for the story.

All in all, this story is the perfect length for a few hours escape with some likable characters. Minor errors are easily overlooked and do not stall the story at all. I did have some funky formatting issues on the Kindle Fire but I suspect that might just be my device.

Excellent beach or pool side read, for when you want to read something light.
